Home | Robert F. Friedman

Rob Friedman has been practicing insurance coverage law for almost fifteen years. Prior to founding Friedman Fisher Verity, Rob led the coverage team at one of Richmond’s preeminent insurance defense and coverage firms. Throughout his career, Rob represented claimants and policyholders whenever possible. Rob is thrilled that he can do so now on a full-time basis and devote his practice exclusively to helping people secure the insurance coverage to which they are entitled.

Rob has extensive experience in state and federal court, including at the appellate levels where he has prevailed before both the Supreme Court of Virginia and the United States Courts of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Rob regularly represents clients in declaratory judgment actions and breach of contract claims, as well as providing coverage advice to attorneys handling personal injury claims. Rob also frequently participates in global mediations and judicial settlement conferences in his capacity as coverage counsel.
Over the years, Rob has spent considerable time identifying, assessing, and litigating personal and commercial auto policies (including uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage); commercial general liability policies; trucking policies; excess/umbrella policies; professional liability policies; homeowners and business owners policies; and indemnification and additional insured contractual provisions. Rob also has extensive experience in bad faith claims.
Rob is most passionate about teaching coverage law—not only to the more than 100 students he has taught at William & Mary Law School as the adjunct professor for Insurance Law, but to the clients he counsels. Rob strongly believes that the best way to meet a challenge is to understand it, which is why he finds sharing his knowledge and experience so rewarding.
